Coldplay Wristbands Turn Audience Into Giant LED Display

 

Coldplay has been turning its audience into interactive participants at recent concerts by handing them Xylobands, LED-illuminated wristbands that can be activated using a radio signal.
The wristbands come in a variety of colors and have the Twitter hashtag #coldplayfilm printed on them to promote the band’s live DVD. When turned on at certain points during the concert, the audience is illuminated with multicolored twinkling lights.

LinkedIn Confirms Hack And Leak Of “Some” User Passwords

Shortly after it was reported that nearly 6.5 million LinkedIn account passwords were leaked onto the net, LinkedIn leapt into action and mounted their own investigation.
Though most of the morning was spent claiming that they could not confirm a security breach, a new announcement on their blog reveals that at least some of those leaked passwords correspond to LinkedIn accounts.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions here though. The company has yet to offer their official word yet on just how many users were impacted, how the accounts were compromised, or whether or not the email addresses that correspond with those passwords were also leaked. LinkedIn’s Vicente Silveira was quick to note that the investigation is far from over though, and with any luck they’ll soon discover and disclose those details very soon.

Microsoft's So.cl social network opens to everyone

Microsoft has silently launched its social network, So.cl, which had been in development for almost a year. The new social networking website is said to help students connect with each other.

“We expect students to continue using products such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other existing social networks, as well as Bing, Google and other search tools. We hope to encourage students to reimagine how our everyday communication and learning tools can be improved, by researching, learning and sharing in their everyday lives," says Microsoft on So.cl's FAQ page.

Pronounced as “Social”, the social network, Microsoft, says is not pitted against Facebook or Twitter. Instead, it is an addition layer to the existing social networking concept – and accepts log in via Facebook or Windows Live account.

However, So.cl is quite similar to other social media sites, as it allows users to share pages of interest, assemble montages of media, discuss on any topic. By default, all searches in So.cl are public. But users can mark their content as “private” and can delete as well. The layout looks somehow similar to Google+, also inspired from Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Soccer fans set tweet-per-second record Soccer viewers are leaving football watchers in the dust when it comes to tweeting during games.

In the Twitter world of sports, soccer proves to be king. During the peak of the Champions League match between Barcelona and Chelsea in London yesterday, 13,684 tweets per second were sent out globally -- setting a Twitter record for tweets during a sporting event.

"The conversation reached its high point immediately following Fernando Torres' late goal, which tied the game and sealed Chelsea's victory in the semi-final," Twitter said in a blog post today.

This means that soccer fans have now beat out football fans on the social network. According to the blog post, the high mark of this year's Super Bowl was 12,233 tweets per second. That spike of tweets happened in the last three minutes of the game when the New York Giants scored a touchdown and won the game. Madonna's halftime show was also popular, peaking at 10,245 tweets per second.

But soccer remains the stronger Twitter hitter. Last July, a tweet-per-second record was previously set during the Women's World Cup final soccer match between the U.S. and Japan with 7,196 tweets per second.

This news also comes at the same time as Brazilian soccer player Kaka, who plays for Real Madrid, has been crowned as the first pro athlete to amass more than 10 million Twitter followers.

Sports aside, the overall tweet-per-second record was set last December during the television broadcast of the Japanese anime movie "Castle in the Sky," with 25,088 tweets. And Lady Gaga holds the title for having the most Twitter followers with more than 23 million
